The transformative paper from 2017 that allowed for the development of modern LLMs (large language models like chatGPT). Linked here.
For this extremely technical paper, you will need to rely on external sources (wikipedia, chatGPT, etc.) to understand what it’s about.
I do not expect you to fully understand that details of this manuscript.
I DO expect you to have a broad idea of what the problem was that this research provided a solution for, at a very general level, specifically as it applies to building LLMs and other AI models.
